Why do smart people have to dumb themselves down to be accepted by the masses? For example, I don’t like the pandering that politicians must do to win votes. I don’t like that Hillary Clinton had to eat a hotdog and do shots with the locals in an attempt to prove that she’s a regular, average person. HELLO, she’s not average! She shouldn’t be average; she was the First Lady and was running for president!
Why does the thought of our candidates being average give people a GOOD feeling? I want someone exceptional and brilliant running our country. I want this person to be a strong and powerful leader with insightful and effective ideas. I can’t stand that some people voted for George Bush because he seemed like a guy who you’d want to have a beer with. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been hired for a job based on my “beer drinking/hangout-ability.” By the way, what’s with our perception of alcohol evoking comfort in voting for a candidate?
Did it really give people a warm and fuzzy feeling when Obama showed his terrible bowling skills? Is this supposed to be some indication that he’s an average Joe? Aren’t average Joes actually good at bowling because they do it a lot?
I just don’t want all of this nonsense to influence people’s decision. When it’s time to vote, think of America as a business that you own…a business you started from the ground up, and the manager/president that you hire will either grow or deteriorate your business. You’re the owner and in charge of hiring the best person for the job. Vote for the good of the country as a whole and NOT JUST your bank account. Don’t be selfish; there are 300 million people in the United States. Although it sometimes feels like our little worlds are the most important, there’s a bigger picture to consider. Block out all of the dumbing down that the candidates have to do to appeal to the less fortunate people in America who aren’t as informed and enlightened as you are.
Get all of the images of the candidates dancing, bowling, shaking hands, holding babies, cheering with their supporters, eating fast food with the locals, and doing shots out of your head. They’re not sports heroes, actors, or rockstars; they’re presidential candidates and I’d like them to start acting like it – but first we have to stop glorifying them when they dumb themselves down. Let this moment be the LAST time your mind goes to those unnecessary places and let’s smarten up and look at what’s important in any election – the real issues. |
bowling sure won’t do it for me … but i was totally thrilled by the fact that barak obama has written [and published] poetry; that tells me on some level he has an “inner” life. i’m voting for the person with an inner life equally as strong as their outer persona. it’s about time we had somebody who may grapple with moral/ethical dilemmas and actually spend sleepless nights trying to “do the right thing.”

enough said!!!!!
Hey Kip,
I’m wondering if the translation is real on this you tube video you linked me to. When the English translation appears at the bottom the name Obama pops up quite a bit yet the leader of Iran( the guy talking) NEVER actually speaks the word Obama. No matter what language you speak a persons name is never messed with. Like if Germans report news on Madonna her name is Madonna and it’s pronounced Madonna. So unless you speak that language fluently and you’re 100% sure of the authenticity of that video and the original source which it cam from, I’m going to have to call question thew authenticity of that video. I’m pretty sure it’s not real. Besides if that were real don’t you think the news stations would be having a field day?
The Police “spirits in the material world” and I wholeheartedly agree. I want OBAMA to lead the nation, not bowl with it.
Hey Dave
YESSS. it’s the Police! Nice.
Whats the opposite of progress, congress!!!
Got me stumped I cant guess the lyrics!
Eggheads should run things but then comedy writers wouldn’t have any material!
McCain cant connect cuz his 1000 M stepford wife just dont work and we love our war heroes but enuf killimg brown skinned folks with oil for now so how does McCain dress up that??
He cant so he loses..
Obama is black and too many are fearful and despise him for that, bowling isnt big in Arkansas or Texas, counntry and western music are at the local fish fr,y and Obama couldn’t be a mile from that local pub even if he wanted too!
So whats a candidates PR guy gonna do with the diversity of folks, this isnt Finland!
Try to be a little bit of this and a little bit of that I reckon partner!
In order for reasonable minds to run things religoin must be outlawed in all public places of goverment see Iran If you disagree, but that means LIBERATING the trapped minds from the masses and their power and they only understabd war so I dont know lets burn all the bibles, Torahs, Korans ect ect and replace with chemistry math physics philosophy booksect,,. you get my point but thats a dream world
Dig up George Carlin ill vote for him
Dr Kevin..
and please take race out of the equation (obamas half white and hilary’s half man)
somebody show us leader!!!!
thats what we need a strong intellectual, balanced leader to turn this great country around, regardless of race gender or economic stature.
me myself id prefer some one raised middle/working class who worked thier ass to go through school
and amde a difference in thier life…isnt that where most GREAT leaders through history came from… great subject!!!
Words of wisdom finally spoken! It’s too bad we can’t get the entire voting population to read this. Well written, thank you.

It’s all about the least common denomenator. MOST of the people in this country are dumb, sad but it gets proven to me more everyday. Therefore as someone who wishes to get these peoples vote, you make yourself appealing to them. Basic Advertising 101. Totally agree with your idea that the country should be run like a business. As a company this country would have been shut down with it being trillions of dollars in debt. The best people who could run our country don’t because it’s not profitable (as a business venture), they can make way more money in the private sector.
On that note, I just heard about a study that showed people who drink make more money. So maybe there is something to be said about one’s drinking/hanging out ability????

I agree. I think they should pay the president more $$$. I think you’re right that many Americans are not informed and they just don’t have the time or energy to change that. Many are gullible and naive and don’t realize the amount of bullshit in the world and how totally corrupt most industries are. They are also easily distracted and manipulated by the media.
You almost have to just keep repeating what the important issues are in your head to NOT be influenced by the tactics the media uses to gloss over the real issues.
As far as people who drink being more successful, I wonder if successful people drink more to deal with all the bullshit coming at them and to deal with the stress they endure to be successful. Just a thought. the true test would be to see how much they drank before they became successful and then after and see if it increased. I think middle class people and poor people drink just as much as the rich . The rich just have more money to spend on it. LOl ..

Well said. Thank God there are still some people out there that make sense!
Thanks Chris! Are you a new commenter on Truthaholic? Welcome!

As a retired journalist, I see the dumbing down of the public tied to pandering by the media. Failure of the news media to take issue with Bush illegal policies caused the unthinking support of Bush by a gullible public.
I vote for my children because they are going to have to live with the long term affects of my (and your) vote. I see see the issue of dumbing down of public officials a necessary evil on their part. Any time a politician (like Obama) starts showing some intelligence, they get labeled as being “too good” or too “high and mighty”. I just read an articles where the media did just that. I really want to start seeing them deal with serious issues that affect family’s like the high cost of health care and the fact that family’s are still losing sons and daughters in combat. Where are those running mates? Who are we really voting for? Their time needs spent on giving us that information!
A very good one. Accurate, scary, and long overdue.
I agree with a lot of what you said. But these politicians, figure with so much money at stake, and so many different people fired up today, tht they have to resort to blantant psychology to control people’s minds. Too much information they think doesn’t work because of their perception that people don’t have the attention span or education to truly understand. In other words, the politicians think that the majority of people they have to convince for their vote are idiots. And they need the votes to get the power to make a difference once they are in office. So guys like McCain sells his soul to just win the election.
But it seems our society has become so difficult to reach in today’s age. So many diverse people, wanting to an identity and purspose, so they want to stand out. People use so much emotion to express their feelings to get noticed that it clouds their judgement and ability to reason.
Lots of content, but worth the read. Keep it coming.
